Danish Livingroom

from Talo & Koti magazine

This pretty picture is from the January issue of the Finnish Talo & Koti magazine. This Danish apartment is full of light and beautiful old furniture. When looking at pictures of people’s homes in magazines and design blogs I’m often drawn to this style – white, simple, calm rooms that still don’t look too modern or cold. Looking at these pictures I always wonder where all the books, DVDs and such are hidden in these clutter-free homes or do the owners simply have less stuff around than we do. Next time we move we’ll have to find a home that has an extra room for a library. We both like to read and watch movies so we have a lot of books and DVDs but I hate having them all on display in the livingroom, it makes the room look cluttered.

Ornaments

We decided to change the layout of the blog a little bit (again. We know! We’re going to stick with this one for a while, we promise). We noticed that the green background, while lovely on our computer screens, looked much too bright on some others and easily hurt the eyes.

In other news, we had a lovely Christmas time spent with family and friends and enjoying lots of good food. My absolute favorite Christmas present was this beautiful ashleyg print that Minna surprised me with, she knows I’m a huge fan of ashleyg’s art.

bedroom

This year we’re spending Christmas Eve and Day with Minna’s family in Southern Ostrobothnia so we’ve kept the Christmas decorations at home to a minimum. There are a few decorations in the kitchen and today a tiny little Yule-Goat found its way on my bedside table (or the chair functioning as one) on top of a pile of new books waiting to be read.

New kitchen table

A great thrift store find! We found this kitchen table at a local thrift store yesterday. It’s made of birch and it seats 4 people and with an extension piece two more. The table is old but in fairly good condition, it only needs some sandpaper and varnish and it’ll be as good as new. In the meantime it’ll do fine like it is. We are happy to finally have a big dining table so that when we have friends over we can all gather together at the same table.
