Nestled In

Today we have sewed more cushions and fixed the layout of the blog a bit. More cushion photos coming soon.

Above are two pictures of our kitchen, the one on the left is from this morning (with brand new curtains made by Minna) and the one on the right is from this afternoon when we had family members over. It turns out that I was wildly optimistic yesterday when I wrote that we’re almost done unpacking! There are still random boxes in the hallway and tucked behind the couch in the livingroom but it’s still much better than it was a few days ago. Next week we’ll have to go and empty out the storage space at my old apartment so there are definitely still things to be done.

Last night I decorated the kitchen for Christmas. Our kitchen table is very small which is good because I have only one of these beautiful place mats. It used to belong to a dear friend of mine who was like a grandmother to me and who passed away in January. She gave it to me a few years ago so it’s very special to me.

We found this lovely Moomin tea towel yesterday (and it was on sale!) and inspired by Anna from Door 16 framing a Marimekko tea towel for her kitchen we decided to frame it. Next to it is the traditional candle holder with little angels. I like the tinkling sound it makes when the candles are lit and the angels go round and round over the candles, I guess it reminds me of childhood Christmases.

We’re almost done with unpacking, only a few little boxes to go and some stuff we have to take down to the storage space in the basement. We have invited some family members over tomorrow to thank them for their help with the moving so we’re trying to get the apartment presentable for that. Most of the furniture has already found its place in the new apartment but we’ve had some difficulty with the furniture arrangement in the livingroom, but more about that later. Tonight Minna has been making the curtains for the kitchen window and I’ve started decorating our new home for Christmas.

So, after one long and tiring day we have almost all our stuff in our new apartment. There’s still some random stuff at Katja’s old place but we’ll get them before the weekend. Our beautiful home is in chaos at the moment. There are boxes and plastic bags all over the place and tables, chairs, arm chairs, bookselves and other pieces of furniture are here and there in very non-fengshui-ish positions. We hope the place will be in order before Christmas and we try to get most of the stuff in their place by the weekend. Right now it’s very complicated to find anything. Last night even our toothbrushes were missing but most importantly, I got the Internet connection working!

Here’s only one corner of our apartment. You can see that we’ll have a LOT to do!
