Nestled In

Last night we got a new shelf in the kitchen. We were thinking about painting the shelf white but now I’m not so sure about it, I kind of like it how it is.

There’s never too much space for storing in a kitchen but what’s best about the new shelf is that now we have a place for plants that’s out of reach for the cat. She’s such an enthusiastic little gardener that no plant or flower is safe from her paws and teeth! Now we can get more houseplants and put them on the new shelf and maybe they’ll live another day (if only I remember to water them once in a while!)

We haven’t posted many pictures of our livingroom because, as you can see, it’s still very much a work in progress. It’s a big, long room that’s open to the dining area in one end and open to the long hallway/my office space in the other. We painted the biggest wall in the room with a shade of green that I absolutely love. We haven’t bought anything for the livingroom except the white rug and curtains, everything else is a mix of old and older furniture from our previous homes. There are a few pieces of furniture there that I really like, for example the green leather sofa (another trift store find) that Minna had in her previous apartment. The small locker next to it and the big bookcase are my favorite pieces of furniture, I had them in my old apartment and before that in my room. But everything else in the room is things we already had with us when we moved and couldn’t get rid off because we need something to fill the large room with and don’t have the budget to buy anything for the room just yet.

We’ve had difficulty with arranging the room, I think we’ve moved the furniture around four times already in the two months we’ve lived here. There’s just too much space and not enough/the wrong kind of furniture. So if anyone has any ideas on how to make the room work better with what we have right now, please share them!

On the left: At the other end of the livingroom there’s Minna’s desk and a big old bookcase. On the right: Organizing your books by their color seems to be popular so I had to try it too.

Finally, more pictures from our apartment. Above left is the hallway (leading from the front door to the livingroom) before we moved in. The walls in the apartment were a very soft beige color but we painted them white. On the right is a picture of how it looks right now. First we had our long bookshelf in the livingroom but we soon moved it into the hallway and I think it looks much better there. It’s such a long hallway so it’s nice to get some use out of it. Just before the livingroom the hallway widens a bit making it a perfect spot for my desk.

I love my little desk. It’s an old teacher’s desk I found at a thrift store about a year ago.
