I’ve been searching Flickr for decoration inspiration and as always, inspiration is not hard to find there! Here are some of my current favorites, I hope you like them too. Maybe the fact that days are finally getting longer again explains the little bursts of bright and fun colors I found in many of my current favorite images. I know that spring is still months away but it feels so good to have the darkest part of the year behind us already.

We’re heading to Southern Ostrobothnia for a few days to visit Minna’s side of family and ring in the New Year, so we’ll be back to blogging next week. We wish for you a fun and safe New Year’s Eve and all the happiness for the year 2009! Thank you so much for reading our little blog and for commenting, we really appreciate it!

If you have any suggestions/wishes on what you would want to read about here on Nestled In in the new year, please leave a comment or email us! We’d love to know what you like reading about/looking the most or what you could do without. Pictures from our own home, renovation pictures and stories, home tours of friends and fellow bloggers, interior design images from photographers’ and stylists’ websites and from magazines, Flickr finds, Etsy finds + other affordable art finds, product guides, pictures of Lissu being all cute? Or something that we haven’t thought of yet but what you think would fit our blog well.

White, wood, grey, a little bit of yellow. Maybe some open shelves too? I’m looking for some kitchen inspiration from LivingEtc for our new kitchen. The key is to keep it very simple, because one wall will have this flowery black+white wallpaper from Eco and we don’t want the room to feel too busy.

old-wallpaper

We spent hours yesterday tearing out layer after layer of old wallpaper in the second bedroom of our new apartment. One of the layers in between was this flowery wallpaper, picture above. (Sorry about the poor image quality, we took this with a camera phone.) It was fun to see the history of the apartment in all those different layers of wallpaper and paint. Because I’ve had wallpapers on my mind lately I thought I’d share with you a few of my favorites.

eco-nina-jobs-hearts

I adore this heart wallpaper from Eco wallpaper designed by Nina Jobs. I really wanted to use this in our new apartment but this was one of those pretty rare times that Minna and I really disagreed on something decoration related. I love the wallpaper, she hates it!

We both immediately fell in love with this wallpaper, also from Eco, and we’re going to use it in our TV-room in the basement.

kirsikkapuu-in-grey-and-blue

Finnish Tapettitalo has the most beautiful wallpapers, so many vintage designs like this Kirsikkapuu (here in both grey and blue). It was designed by Ritva Kronlund in the seventies.

These ones are a bit out of our price range, otherwise we’d have considered them for our new home. Bindweed and Ribbed are both from Ferm Living. Anna at Door Sixteen recently renovated her upstairs bathroom and used the beautiful Bindweed wallpaper. Gorgeous, right?

city-is-ready-for-holidays-1

The city is ready for Christmas, decorated with evergreens and lights, and with a little help from nature, lots of beautiful white snow. Walking around the city center today I think I finally found my Christmas spirit. The city looked so peaceful under all that snow, and it made me want to slow down too and relax, make these days as calm as peaceful as I can. I’m looking forward most to those little moments when there’s no schedule or plans, maybe going out for a little walk, just the two of us, or sitting on the couch knitting or reading, or making a late evening snack from left-overs.

We are taking a little holiday break from the blog for a few days but we’ll return with more renovation updates soon. We wish you all a lovely holiday time, take time to slow down and enjoy the beauty around you and the company of those that are near you!

Almost Christmas

Did we promise to share a small sewing project with you? A few days ago already? Well I guess better late than never! It seems that the days leading to Christmas are just flying by and it feels like not enough gets done. Christmas cleaning? (We haven’t even begun.) Updating our blog? (Kind of forgot about it. Sorry!) Sending out some of those Christmas cards for friends abroad? (I guess they’ll be more like New Years cards now?) With the renovation madness going on + we both getting sick with the flu, we just haven’t had the time or energy to get everything done.

On Friday I decided to finally focus on some gifts I had wanted to make for my young cousins and our friends’ young children. We wanted to give them something handmade, not just another plastic toy. So I made these little bags for every child – and inside every bag there’s a little surprise gift that we bought (fun puppets, warm mittens). I also made a small patchwork pillowcase, just for fun. I didn’t use any patterns and all the bags are different sizes and shapes, I just cut the fabric and saw what came of it. I am not a good sewer and I guess this is my main problem with learning the skill – I don’t have the patience to plan my projects too much, let alone seek out patterns. But I think these turned out quite well anyway.
