Beauty Of Every Day Life

I don’t think that I fully appreciated the beauty of every day life before I found blogs and Flickr couple of years ago. I don’t think that I really took the time to notice things around me, all those small lovely things that make a home, or everything that makes up our neighborhood, or my home town. I’ve always been interested in decorating but I didn’t pay attention to all those other things besides decorating that make any space a home. But reading blogs and discovering Flickr I realized that there is so much beauty in all the every day things if you just take the time to see it. That was one of the main reasons why I wanted Minna and I to start a home blog last year, so we had a place where to focus on the small things as well as the bigger things, on decorating (and now renovating) but also those little moments that pass by so quickly. We often take our cameras out only if it’s a special occasion – someone’s birthday, a holiday, or maybe to photograph a project we’ve completed in our home. But I find that I am the most inspired by images of those small everyday moments that can be both fleeting and rare and repetitive and mundane. As you can see from these lovely images above, there’s beauty to be found in those little moments.
Inspired by all the lovely images on Flickr I’ve decided to take part in the 365 project, where the object is to take a photo every single day of the year. Since starting our blog last year I’ve started to take more photos and I have to say that I love learning more about photography and taking the time to take pictures. Taking part in this year long project my main goal is to get more comfortable and familiar with our Nikon D60 and learn to take different kinds of pictures – so at the end of the year I won’t have 365 similar ones! I’m afraid this project will be quite a challenge since I’m one of those people who rarely remember what date it is so I’m worried I’ll forget to take a picture every day! But I’ll try my best. I am also working full-time for a while now and I’m discovering that after a full work day there isn’t that much time or light (at least this time of the year) to really take photos. So it’s going to be a challenge! How about you, have you ever taken part in this sort of thing or are you planning to do so this year? You can see my project 365 set here.

hej Katja!
I love the collage on the post here, very much! :o)
I strongly agree with you on how much Flickr+blogs helped me to appreciate the beauty of every day life! That has also shaped my mind and soul towards positive thinking really!
Especially Flickr, has not only be the webspace to just watch other’s work but eventually made me to conribute, even long before I had my own camera. My first photos on Flickr are mostly taken with friends cameras, or even some scanned images taken with some toy-cameras!
More importantly Flickr is the perfect community to get to know nice and productive people like you!
I am glad about your 365 project and I think it is not so important wheather it will be successfully completed or not, but to initiate the idea and share, that counts.
I love your set of everyday things.
I’ve been thinking about starting the 365 project, but I’m afraid I’ll fail miserably because so many days I’m just too tired. I’ll be following yours and maybe you can inspire me to get started!

Hi Katja
I totally agree with you about the beauty of the everyday-ness of life; heaven in ordinary I call it! There is SO much inspiration to be found on Flickr and it has certainly made me notice the little things more.

SO true about flickr and blogs – there is just so much beauty in everyday life and so many people tend to miss it!
I started the 365 project and have so far managed to take a photo everyday…(but haven’t yet uploaded the past weeks worth!eeps!)
I’ve been working non-stop and going back to the gym, so it’s been amusing trying to fit in a moment to take a pic…but i’ve been loving it so far! :)
Great to see your pics too – your renovation looks like it’s coming along nicely!
Goodluck with project 365!
