What The Kitchen Looks Like Now

The kitchen is almost ready! There’s still some grouting to do and the door handles and shelves have to be installed to the cabinets, but that’s about it. Minna wallpapered the kitchen wall and I am in love with this flowery wallpaper! It looks really nice with the white kitchen cabinets and the grey walls in the adjoining rooms.

We have a busy weekend ahead of us – lots of unpacking and organizing to do, and a date night in the evening to celebrate our first year of being engaged (it’s nice to celebrate a little, after all this hard work!) Have a lovely weekend!

practice-kindness

Look what came in mail today just in time for my birthday (27 today)! I have been admiring this lovely Gocco print by Lisa Congdon for ages so I couldn’t have been happier when Minna ordered it for my birthday gift. I love the print’s simple and beautiful design and message. I think that it’s the perfect sentiment to start a new year with, it is definitely something that I could learn more this year. To be kinder to myself and to others, not to stress so much, not to be so critical of myself and my imperfections, not always be so afraid of failing. What about you – is it easy for you to be kind to yourself and not be overly critical of what you do?

Moving Day

movingday1

Hi everyone and thank you for your kind comments! Here’s a little peek into the moving day for you. Everything went well, thanks to our families who came over to help. There’s still some boxes left at the old apartment, mostly kitchen stuff which we didn’t hurry packing because the kitchen renovation is still very much going on. So on top of all the furniture stacked on top of each other and the boxes unpacked (we’re getting there, slowly but surely) there’s tools and renovation stuff and dust everywhere. It’s a complete chaos around here and we are exhausted (plus living on microwave food and with no Internet connection at home is getting old really fast!) but we know it’s going to be all worth it, so I know I shouldn’t even be complaining. I’ll be back soon with some kitchen photos – it’s looking lovely,  I already know that it’s going to be my favorite room in the house!

Old Home

Here are some of my favorite images taken in this apartment, in what becomes our old home this weekend. The moving day is finally here and hopefully after the weekend we are all moved in into our new home. Although I am so happy and eager to move into our new home, this old home will always have a special place in my heart and I have such happy memories from this place. Sure, the apartment was completely freezing during the winter time, we had some questionable (and smelly!) neighbors and the noise from the street below carried into the apartment, but it was also our first home together, the beginning of us living together and also what made us start this blog, which has become a big part of our lives now. I feel very lucky and thankful today for both of these homes.

We’re taking a couple days off from blogging, but will be back next week with hopefully a picture or two from our new home. Have a lovely weekend!

Pyhät Ystäväni

pyhat-ystavani-1

Here is a gem of a book I recently found at the bookstore sale. Pyhät Ystäväni (= My Holy Friends) is a collaboration between writer Jaakko Heinimäki and artist Katja Tukiainen. It is a calendar with every day of the year dedicated to one saint each. In between the short depictions and stories of the saints there are lovely illustrations of some of the saints’ stories. Everyone who is a fan of Katja Tukiainen’s style will love these illustrations (see below, even Lissu likes them). (And yes, my fingers are these days permanently stained with paint!)
