So here it is, our livingroom! It’s not even close to being done but I wanted to share it with you anyway. Don’t mind the long boxes of laminate flooring stored in the corner near the window, it’s for the upstairs hallway floor. There’s still a lot missing from this room – we have to buy a curtain rod, a rug, a TV-stand and a light fixture (this one is from our old bedroom), but I don’t mind that it’s not all there yet. The floor is nice enough that I don’t even miss having a rug there for now and anyway, it’s good to live in this space for a while before buying everything. Also, we want to see where all the furniture ends up being before we hang any art on the walls.

We painted most of the walls in this new apartment with this same light grey and I really love it, it’s just enough color (I was getting tired of white, as nice as it is) but still neutral enough. Minna found the new sofa table from a trift store (for about 20 Euro!) so the old sofa table holds our magazines etc in the corner. We really need to get a dresser or a small bookcase or something for this room for magazines, books and board games but I don’t want anything too big and bulky because I don’t want to make the room feel too full.

I made some pillowcases during the weekend. I’m not very good with the sewing machine but these turned out surprisingly nice! The fabric with the orange flowers is from hollabee (from Ink & Spindle), I adore their designs!

Oh how great are these images from photographer Wendell T. Webber (via the always lovely Keltainen talo rannalla)!? I love the bright and bold colors, just perfect for this time of the year. I’ve never really been a fan of orange but all of the sudden I really like it and I’m actually on the look out for something lovely and orange for our new livingroom. I made a few pillowcases for the livingroom couch during the weekend and there’s a bit of orange there but I want more!

Also, how lovely is that yellow bedside table in the bottom image? We’re looking for new bedside tables and I’ve had no idea what I wanted until I saw this image. This is exactly what I want, maybe not in bright yellow, but something little bit fun and cheerful like this table.

I’m out of ideas on how to decorate the bedroom – the green color we chose for the walls is lovely… but it doesn’t seem to go with anything. Maybe I am wrong and we’ll find something just perfect for the room (still looking for bedside tables, a bedspread, a rug and light fixtures!) but today I’m dreaming of different colors, like these lovely yellows and greens and greyish blues in the images above. Don’t you just love these hues? We went back and forth for a long time with the bedroom color and now that it’s up I do like it, but I am not sure if I love it. I don’t know, I often get like this with decisions, I keep second guessing myself and wondering if I made the right choice – especially when it comes to decorating! That’s actually why I like to buy things from thrift stores and Ikea, nothing too expensive, just in case I change my mind about them later. Now that we have our own lovely home I have this pressure to make it just perfect and it keeps me from making decisions and makes me go a wee bit crazy sometimes and to forget that paint color is not infact forever and we can paint over walls and we can buy new furniture or rearrange later if we want to! Sometimes I forget that. How about you – do you get the same way with decorating sometimes? Please tell me you do, that I’m not the only one!

Home Is Where The Art Is

Hi everyone! I didn’t mean the blog to get so quiet for so long but it seems that a little break was in order, both with renovating and decorating as well as with blogging. Now after some rest I feel like I’m up to taking on the decorating project again – not to even mention the rest of the unpacking that’s still left to do!!! Yesterday I hung the very first piece of art on our new home walls, this lovely original illustration by the very talented and lovely Natasha Newton. Minna and I are big fans of her work (I’ve written about her art before on the blog) and we’re so lucky to have gotten to know her through blogging. When we moved into our new home Natasha sent us this original illustration called Ethereal Trees as a housewarming gift, it is so delicate and beautiful, we love it! (Click here to see a better quality picture of the drawing, my pictures don’t do it justice)

Now that we have our first piece of art on the wall I have to say that the whole place feels more like home than it did before. What a big difference art makes!

In case you don’t know her yet, I want to introduce you to Catherine from Australia. I’ve been reading her blog Little Glowing Lights for a while now and am always inspired by her beautiful photography at Flickr. Now Catherine has two new postcard packs of her lovely work for sale in her Etsy shop. What a nice summer feeling these images have, perfect for this time of the year when there’s still snow on the ground (at least over here in Finland) but the spring sun is out, reminding you that winter will be completely behind us very soon.

I hope you are having a lovely spring weekend!
