While my decorating style is far from minimalistic I do tend to gravitate to simple and clean lines and calm and airy spaces. Maybe part of it is that we Finns usually shy away from too fussy things and like to keep things simple, and part is obviously the fact that I love the style, but also there’s that little part that is scared of using too many patterns and colors and things. I adore spaces like these beautifully photographed by Hallie Burton – they are filled with things but are far away from being fussy. I always admire people who can decorate like this, with so many interesting details but still keeping the over all look serene. I worry that if I tried to decorate like this it would only look cluttered and messy, that I wouldn’t be able to find just the right balance this style needs. Also I worry that in the end I would get tired of the look easily. But still, I think there is something special to this style and I’d love to learn more about it. We’re thinking about making the upstairs hallway into a little “gallery space” for art, photographs etc, so maybe that’s the perfect place to start practising!

those are some of my favorite interior photos. i’d have to say that she captures the style of my dream home :)
These are beautiful images, I think what they represent are a collection of items that make up a life rather than a lifestyle. One thing I may file under my ‘trial and error’ section is that I have been known to try and do the same and copy the style rather than realise that this takes time to build up a collection and is a growth process. The images of your home certainly indicate that you are on the way to having just that, a collection of your own :)
Back to my … marathon baking session! x
I just love all of these frame arrangements!
Ihania kuvia.
wow i love it here! greetings from germany!
I love it when the house is filled with things. Like in Christmas and now with all our pots with basil, squash, chilli, corn…you name it – everywhere. At the same time it’s such a relief when these things are gone and the window boards and tables and sideboards are clean again. Great and inspiring photos!
Oh! I love love love this home. I’ve seen it first time in the magazine LivingEtc (when I remember right). And I fell immediately in love with all the little details and small decorative objects and collections. I also enjoy the use of colors in this home. It’s fun to see the images here and to hear you enjoy them also.
You are right. It’s hard to create this style without letting it look cluttered. I’m quite a collector and it’s hard to keep and select only the items you really love and need to create a beautiful display.
Oh I love this style too, it is just so pretty, so much to look at but not overwhelming at all. Those top two images are perfect.
I’ve always been exactly the same way… leaned towards the simple, clean aesthetic but have always admired the well assembled nonclutter. I think starting with the hallway is a fantastic idea. Perhaps I’ll try something like this too at some point :)
I agree with you, it´s not easy to create that kind of balance. Perhaps some objects in the same color palette will help, to begin.
