Hedges

Being first time home owners there are a lot of firsts that come along. Today I pruned the entire hedgerow that lines our small front yard, a first for me and a surprisingly good workout too. I had to stand on this stool to reach the top and there were a couple of times I almost fell into the hedges. I was happy to see that after an hour of working the hedgerow looked much more tidy than it did before – and no big gaping holes in the hedges either (I was a bit worried about that)!
Next we’ll have to buy some twine for the vines next to our front porch, they have grown very tall very fast and are now creeping along the wall. The hedges and the vines seem to be the only plants flourishing on our yard, our flower bed is looking quite sad. I’m hoping that next year we’ll be able to focus more on the yard, this summer it wasn’t in our budget. What about you, have you been working in the garden lately?

Arn’t hedges a lot of work? We have them lining our front yard and along the street all the way to the back. They make for a charming yard, but I’ve had to cut mine twice this year. We have an electric trimmer which saves a lot of time and actually makes it easier to make straight lines. When I used to do it with the clippers by hand it would take me 3 hours so I gave up on that method.
Sometime I would be cool to share your “curb appeal” tricks with us readers. I’d love to see what style you add to the front of your house :D
Oh, how exciting. I’m looking forward to all the little firsts when I finally become a home owner- even the not so fun ones!!
Sheboygan, WI.. really? I’m from Wisconsin. What are the odds!? :)
How exciting! I love reading about your experienes as a home owner.
Fun! We close on our house in one month from today. The people who live there now have so many gardens, I have no idea how I will ever keep up with all of them on top of a full time job! I suppose I will find out. ;)
It seems like we’re in the garden every weekend just trying to stay on top of the weeds! Other than that, I just try not to kill everything – I was not blessed with a green thumb. ;)
Ilmeisesti kitukasvuisuus johtuu leikkauksen puutteesta, joten ajattelin minäkin alkaa harjoitella trimmauspuuhia.
i love these photos — that tendril of a plant moving towards the camera :)
we’re renting for our first year in vermont and it’s quite a relief to not have to worry about the garden — we had a big yardr in los angeles and it overwhelmed us sometimes… what i love most about it here is that everything grows wild — the grasses and wildflowers and weeds are left to do what they do best. it’s beautiful :)
