After a long day I felt like a little inspiration was in order – and there’s really no better place for finding it than Flickr. Here are some of my recent Flickr favorites, aren’t they beautiful? I hope you are having a good week! Over here the weather is getting chilly already, which I really like, but when I left for school early this morning there was little bit of ice and snow on the ground. I think it’s a bit too early for that!

Blue & Green

Once in a while I get a new color crush, recently I’ve been enamored with orange and pink and then with black and white. But after a while those crushes fade and I always return to my first loves -  green and blue. While other colors are fun for a change it’s green and blue that feel like home to me. I was reminded of this again when I (once again) made new pillowcases for the livingroom and instantly fell in love with the room again (we had been going through a bit of a rough spot). I got the blue fabric from Marimekko (on sale for 10 Euro/metre, one metre was enough for two pillowcases) and the green one we bought from Ikea sometime last winter.

Bookshelves

bookshelf

We have been looking for a bookcase for our livingroom forever, searching through thrift stores and Ikea looking for something that fits both the (small) space and our (small) budget. Meanwhile our books and boardgames have been stored away in the basement. On our last trip to Ikea the Lerberg shelving units caught our eye, we instantly liked the very simple and lightweight look of them. I have to admit that they are nothing like what we were looking for, I think that I envisioned a gorgeous midcentury credenza or a big bulky bookcase with doors but gogeous midcentury credenzas (not to even mention ones that we could afford!) don’t really come by often over here and a big bookcase would have made the small room feel even smaller. So in the end the Lerberg shelves were kind of a compromise but a happy one.

After arranging the books by color I was inspired to make new sofa pillows (again!) using the lovely greens and blues from the book spines. I’ll share pictures soon!

Visiting John And Juli’s Cottage

Today I want to introduce you to a new blog favorite of mine, KITKA design toronto and to share a few images of their gorgeous cottage remodel. (Click here for more pictures!) I don’t know what I love the most about this cottage – the white floors and walls, the high ceiling, the use of plywood or all the great furniture and details! (Maybe the plywood, it looks really amazing.) I think that if I ever had a cottage like this I would never want to leave it!

But enough gushing already, I’ll let John and Juli tell you more about themselves:

“We are John & Juli, and we live in Toronto Ontario. Back in January we decided to share our collective obsession with design by starting on our blog KITKA. We wanted to create a design blog from a Toronto perspective, featuring local design shops, architecture, andl vintage finds. With the renovation of our inherited cottage, however, our Scandinavian influences became very apparent, from design aesthetics to furniture to nic nacks.

We spent the summer renovating Juli’s parent’s old Georgian Bay cottage. Since we had a minuscule budget we had to do a lot of the work ourselves. That meant removing the old linoleum floors, refinishing and painting the old hardwood, tearing down walls, building a kitchen, and keeping the rest minimal.”

Thank you so much John and Juli for inviting us in and sharing about your amazing project!

Nice quiet days mostly spent at home this weekend. We went for a little walk to enjoy the autumn weather. Lissu spent most of the hot summer days keeping cool in the basement but now that the weather is getting colder again you can find her sleeping on our bed all day.
