Nestled In

We’ve been looking for a nice coffee table ever since we moved in but hadn’t found the right one yet. So when my grandparents offered us an old table they had sitting in the storage we decided to take it. It wasn’t perfect - not exactly what we were looking for but it was free and it had potential. It’s a simple peasant style table built in 1939 and as you can see from the ‘before’ picture (above) the top had been painted green and the legs were varnished brown. The height of the table was almost regular dining table height so my grandfather cut the legs shorter for us. Minna and I considered painting or varnishing the top and the legs different colors but at the end we decided to paint the whole table white. We chose a high gloss paint because we thought it would give the table a bit more modern look. After some sandpapering and painting we finally have a coffee table. And look, both ends of the table have little drawers in them. They’re perfect for storing the remote controls.

New reading nook in the livingroom. I love the new sofa, it’s so comfortable! It’s my favorite place to read now. (It is also perfect for taking little naps on.) It’s where I’ve spent most of this afternoon enjoying a book and tasty watermelon. Hope you are enjoying your weekend too!

Here they are, our two new (old) chairs. It’s not like we need any more chairs in this apartment, there are too many as it is, but these ones were going to be thrown away so we had to rescue them. These chairs were left at my grandparents’ summer cottage by the previous owner of the cottage and since then they have been sitting in storage and briefly found use again on the porch of my aunt’s house this summer. But she realized she didn’t have enough room for them so we took the chairs off her hands. We don’t know what we are going to do with them but I thought they were too nice to throw away. I like their simple lines and curves.

I think I’ve found my ideal bookshelf! String Pocket by Nisse Strinning is a shelf system first introduced in 1949. This red shelf first caught my eye in some interior decorating magazine but I think that the shelf system looks even more stunning in white.
