Nestled In

We drove past this old abandoned house (and surprisingly many similar to it) on our way to Southern Ostrobothnia to meet Minna’s family. Every time we drive past it I wonder aloud to Minna how lovely it would be to live in a house like that, to repair it and make it lovely again. I love the green roof, the windows and the pretty little porch - it is such a perfect little house. It always makes me sad to see these beautiful old homes abandoned and forgotten.

It has been raining here for days (or weeks?). Everyday it’s cold, grey, wet and miserable outside. So yesterday we decided that rather than stay in and complain about the weather (like we usually do) we should go out, into the rain and the cold and the grey. So we headed out to the beach. Thankfully the rain stopped just after we got there but it was still very cold and as you can see from the photos, grey. But we had a good time, picking rocks, wading in the shallow water and taking pictures.

Even though at the first glance everything at the beach looked grey there were little bits of color everywhere. Plants in all different shades of green, beautiful blue flowes, white flowers, red and orange and yellow stones. And my bright red boots!

I took this picture on my walk today (see it bigger here). I really wish we had the budget for a better camera, I’d love to learn more about photography. Tomorrow we are driving up to IKEA, the one in Haparanda, Sweden - it’s just near the border of Finland and Sweden and it’s the closest one to us. We don’t have an exciting shopping list, we’re just looking for a couple of picture frames and pots for plants, but since it’s been a while since we last visited IKEA I’m looking forward to just looking around the store (and maybe finding a nice impulse buy or two!).

Pictures from my walk today. It’s been a sunny but a rather cold day, I had to wear a jacket. But still it was very pretty outside, the sky and the water the bluest blue.

Here are a few pictures from our drive to Southern Ostrobothnia this weekend. I took these from the car window while Minna was driving. The weather was so warm and gorgeous on Friday. The sky was the bluest of blue and no clouds in sight. Oh, how I love the beginning of summer!
